Definitely recommend this restaurant if in DC! The service was very friendly and the food was amazing. It is a little pricier of a restaurant, but it is so worth it! I am still dreaming of the chana masala that I had. The plate portions are the most perfect amount and the food is so authentic and yummy. Some of the dishes are so pretty you don't even want to eat! Like the Paleek Paneer... it is so picture worthy but let me tell you get that picture taken quick cause the fish is a yummy keeper! Whether going for drinks after work or wanting a full dinner this is a great location to dine and will become your new regular.
After receiving a gift card, my wife and I came here, and we thoroughly enjoyed this place. Growing up on traditional Indian food, I enjoy going out and trying different Indian restaurants. We started with some gol gappa, and while I could eat 40 or 50 of these, they came with a few pieces, which brought back some good memories. My wife and I also enjoyed some drinks, and the fantastic presentation of the drinks was equal to the flavor. My wife and I ordered our entrees, and the chole masala I got was delightful. The entire night was enjoyable from the service to the food.
I cannot say enough positive things about my experience! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and loved every moment. Our server was extremely attentive and thorough in explaining the menu. I highly suggest trying the Gol Gappa-similar to pani puri and very flavorful as well as the chicken tikka sampler-3 pieces of chicken cooked with different spices and served paired with a dipping sauce. My main sea bass dish with cauliflower was delightful! What makes this place special is the presentation of each dish-visually it was exceptional! Make sure to order some of their drinks as they're a show in themselves! My suggestions are Saffron Mystic and Smoked Anjeer. (The table next to us got Pandora's box and the presentation was super fun for that as well)-I won't ruin the surprise you've got to check it out for yourself! This restaurant is pricy but worth the splurge for a special night out. You might be able to find some street parking around or there's a parking garage under the Landmark Theater within a few minute walking distance.
This was our "fancy restaurant" experience during my sister's visit. One of my favorite cuisines is Indian and the take at Punjab Grill is creative and exciting. Not your classic curry and rice Indian food. My favorite bite was the chicken tikka sampler. The chicken was so fresh and perfectly cooked. It melted in your mouth and went perfectly with the sauces. I loved the vegan "goat" biriyani. The jackfruit was delicious and completely transformed from its vegetable form. It's goat-inspired so the spices and the dish itself reminded me of goat biriyani but don't expect it to taste like it a goat. It was savory, light, and flavorful. We ordered a bunch of small plates and a main dish and went around trying little bites of everything. All the dishes were fantastic. I would recommend coming here for a fancy and creative take on classic Indian flavors.
Before I came here, I read up on this gem and discovered that this restaurant was created in India, then assembled here in DC, to me, that brings another whole level/experience of northern Indian, specifically from the Sikh dynasty. The overall experience; service, quality of the food, prices, ambiance, and presentation was more than what I could've imagined. The only reason why I am giving this 4 stars is because my partner who is from Punjabi said this isn't authentic as it can get, it was great for presentation and taste, but it wasn't 100% genuinely authentic. Of course it has to be catered to the western tongue slightly, but the price is more for the presentation and environment. It was his birthday and I wanted to spoil him but even he said that he wouldn't pay $30 for butter chicken for the portion that was given, it was beyond delicious. Even I could tell that the chicken is marinated over night or seasoned perfectly, but not worth $30 for 3 kabob sizes. I highly recommend this for a fancy dinner date or celebration, everything about this place was beautiful.
We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. The restaurant was busy and many people. However there is enough space between tables. Drink: I had a pisco. It was sweeter side. I am a girl but I wish it was not too sweet. Butter chicken: Love the flavor. It is something that I can't create it at home. I like that they baked the chicken separately. Naan: it is so soft. Gol Gappa: love tangy flavor and easy to eat and nice appetizer size to share with table Machhi: sea bass is meaty and melted in mouth. Love the curry to go with. Kofta: it got pinch of spice and love the mix of sweetness from Tomato and Indian spices. They married nicely. Chicken Biriya: my husband's favorite food. However the chicken was kinda dried. This was the least favorite dish. Overall we loved great service, ambiance and food. Highly recommend.
THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING--highly recommend this restaurant!! Came here last week for DC Restaurant Week and luckily was able to find a late dinner reservation available on Opentable. Started off with drinks at the bar first--the bar area is so beautiful, with marble countertop--the overall decor inside the restaurant was beautiful. It has an energetic and fancy vibe here, I loved it. Food was exceptional! We ordered off the $55/person which include a choice of 1 small plate, 1 Signatures & Classic, and 1 dessert option--this menu came with garlic naan and was a bigger portion than the $35/person menu, which had additional charges for certain dishes. Everything was delicious--Goat Pepper Fry, Chicken Tikka Sampler, Rarha Lamb, and Tawa Scallops. Their food is well flavored, and the portions are very reasonable. I'm not a big dessert person but their desserts were okay. Our cocktails were perfectly made--gin and soda with mint leaves, limes and cucumbers. Service is outstanding here--always checking up on our table, even the bartenders came to check up on our drinks. I enjoyed my experience here, I will be back!
First time trying this fine establishment in DC and let me tell you, for the service itself they deserve a mischelin. staff is constantly checking in, never had to wait for a water refill, never had to wave over staff, food came out in pristine time, staff cleaned and cleared the table after each course now, for the food, being indian and used to authentic food cooked by grandma, i definitely am a snob and overly critical so ill have to say food itself is average but presentation is on point. appetizers - we got the chaat and burata, a favorite was the chaat since it nailed the spiced and had the perfect crunch. the burrata was not what i expected i didnt see any punjab styled twist to it. entree - got the vegan goat biryani and chole. being a meat eater the vegan goat biryani did not disappoint!!! minus the juicyness of goat it nailed the flavors - i seriously enjoyed this!!! the chole was kind of bland - it needed more of a kick of spices and masala to it. some chutney or achar on the side would help a little but i think the restaurant can improve the dish overall. we saw the menu had a naan that was whiskey battered and this was probably my favorite food item all night. it was shockingly sweet and tasted like popcorn - i enjoyed eating it with raita. desserts were beautiful. the cherry kheer was so perfect - i think the cherry kick to it was unique and enjoyable as i love cherries. i dont like chocolate but my friend ate this in a heartbeat and left nothing to spare - sign of a great dessert we came for restaurant week so i think the overall price was fair and filling! could barely get through my entree so im satisfied in that sense. ill definitely be back to order a la carte to taste their meat options since punjabis are known for good meat food. i recommend anyone looking for some fine dining to give this spot a shot!!!
I would give this 10 stars!!! Talk about one of the best experiences at a restaurant I have ever had!!! From the service and interior design and especially the food!!! Beyond what I expected, I loved everything that was brought out! We were in the private room, it is located to the left as soon as you walk in. I have had mimosas before but never had the blood orange one and it was sooo good!! Def recommend that one it was delish! The foods we had: Caviar with petite toast with butter and foam Oysters Crab claws Aloo Tikki Chaat Chicken Tikka Sampler Rarha Lamb Butter chicken Most amazing and quality food! I recommend this place! I want to go back to have a party in the their room which seats 10 people...loved the decor and ambiance! Special shout out to Anne, chef and staff for a once in a lifetime experience! There is street and garage parking...street parking is free in DC on Sundays. I beyond recommend this place!
We decided to dine here last weekend for my husband's birthday. It was recommended by my cousin, so decided to give it a try. I called them Friday evening and made a reservation for 4 adults and 3 kids, which I was able to get. First of all, the service at this restaurant is impeccable. We had an infant at our table, so there was a bit of a mess. The server kept coming to our table, and quietly cleaned the table multiple times. He was super attentive and fulfilled all our requests with a smile. I was very impressed with how friendly and nice the servers were. Kudos!!! Here are the vegetarian things we ordered: - Aaloo Tikki Chaat: Delicious. This is served with crispy spinach, which was a perfect combination. Loved it. - Kathal Kofta: Huge fan of this dish. I loved how different this is from the traditional 'malai koftas' we get at Indian restaurants. This is made of jackfruit, and oh how amazing it tasted. Loved it. - Daal Punjab: This comes as a side, and is enough for 2-3 people. It was perfectly made with the right amount of spice. I'm a huge daal makhani snob, and I loved it. - Ajwaini Paratha: I loved this bread. I am a huge fan of ajwain (indian spice) in general. So was glad this was in the menu, and tasted great. My husband and friends ordered the Beef Nihari, Butter Chicken, and some kababs, and absolutely loved all of them. The drinks are super fancy and delicious too. I didn't drink, but the drinks that were served to my husband and friends were nothing I had seen before. I just cannot wait to go back there to eat. I can still taste the food in my mouth as I write this review. This is going to be my new favorite Indian restaurant for sure. Absolutely loved everything - the service, the ambiance, and most importantly....the food!!!
